Refinery Alert Siren: Torrance Refinery to Test Community Alert System

Residents living near the former ExxonMobil refinery will likely hear the alert over a roughly five-minute period.

TORRANCE, CA -- The Torrance Refining Company will conduct a test of its community alert siren on Wednesday, meaning residents living near the former ExxonMobil refinery will likely hear the alert over a roughly five-minute period.

The monthly test is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

According to PBF Energy, which owns the refinery, the test will begin with "all-clear chimes" lasting for about one minute. The siren -- which can be heard over a much larger area than the chimes -- will follow for about two minutes.
