Retired Redondo Officers Solve 1995 Murder Cold Case

A man was shot in a grocery store parking lot in 1995 and the case went cold. Now, there is a convicted killer thanks to two retired cops.

REDONDO BEACH, CA – Two retired Redondo Beach police officers solved the 23-year-old case of a man who was shot and killed while grocery shopping in the South Bay. Ted Emery was shot to death in a parking lot in 1995, but the case went cold, CBS reported.

Retired RBPD officers Rick Peterson and John Skipper, who dedicate their time to solving cold cases, reached a breakthrough in 2012. They called Emery's daughter Gail, on her dad's birthday, nonetheless, to tell her they tied DNA evidence preserved since 1995 to determine Elliot Laanui, of Gardena, had murdered her father, the news station reported.

Then, they spent six years gathering evidence for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office to try the case. Laanui was convicted, and his sentencing is scheduled for next week.
