Sea Hawks Survive Second Half Surge, Win 10-6 Over Beverly Hills

Redondo sweeps season series with Normans as Harrison Faecher scores four times.

It wasn’t the complete game coaches and players from Redondo Union would have liked, but winning 10-6 Friday night was good enough to sweep their season series with Beverly Hills.

“We didn’t play in control a lot of the game and I don’t think we played as a team the full game, but it’s nice to still get the win when you’re not executing well,” Redondo coach Phil Comito said.

Freshman Harrison Faecher led the way for the Sea Hawk offense with four goals on a night when Redondo (5-3, 4-1) was able to take a five-goal lead into halftime.

Beverly Hills mounted a second-half rally, as Mikey Cole took a pass from goalie Ronnie Seidel and promptly put away a shot with 10:34 left in the third quarter.

Dominic Peluso answered just 30 seconds later, taking a pass from Dillon Guth and crossing in front of the net before scoring to keep the Normans down five at 8-3.

“We have played our best in close games. We got a big cushion and let our guard down a little in the second half and Beverly Hills went on a run,” Comito said.

Beverly Hills (3-7, 2-6) scored twice in the next minute with Maddy O’Neil finding the back of the net for the third of his four goals 3:09 into the third quarter at 8-5.

The Sea Hawks defense tightened up their play, however, holding the Normans scoreless over the next thirteen minutes, with Faecher’s fourth goal giving Redondo more breathing room en route to their 10-6 victory

“In the second half, I think we just came out lazy and felt we had the game under control with that five goal lead,” Faecher said.

“It got closer there and we started talking more about keeping our zones and made sure to key on number 2 [Nick Heller] and 26 [Matin Mehdizadeh] and keep the ball away from them,” junior Max Christy said.

Christy was strong all night in faceoffs, gaining control for Redondo and helping them build their early 7-2 first half lead.

“I wanted to do whatever I could to get the ball to our wings and get things started.  We definitely got some things going offensively after a slower start,” Christy said.

Faecher and Jeff Clark provided the bulk of the Sea Hawk scoring, combining for seven of the teams 10 goals.

The Sea Hawks picked up their first win at home and improved to 4-1 in the Bay League. They looking forward to a key matchup with Palos Verdes, currently undefeated in league action.

“We have a big game next Friday versus Palos Verdes and I think if we execute and talk on defense we have a great shot,” Faecher said.

Comito stressed to his team the importance of consistent teamwork and putting together a complete game in order for his group to challenge the league’s best.

“This season has really been game-to-game,” Comito said. “We haven’t had the consistency we’re looking for yet. We felt like we had something going with our recent play, but tonight shows us we have some work to do still.”
