Small Jet Crashes Into Fence After Landing At South Bay Airport

The seven passengers on board were able to exit the aircraft uninjured after it skidded off the departure end of the runway.

HAWTHORNE, CA — A small plane containing seven people crashed through a perimeter fence at the Hawthorne Municipal Airport Tuesday night, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

LACoFD units responded to the crash at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 27 and found the tail of the plane had gone through a fence at the airport. All seven of the passengers on the plane were able to exit the plane uninjured, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane, an Embraer Phenom 505, crashed upon landing and the aircraft went off the departure end of the runway near Prairie Avenue the FAA reported.

The cause of the incident was still under investigation.
