South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide May 25, 2017
The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide offers comprehensive coverage of the greater South Bay area.

Last Saturday morning I took a flight out of Torrance Airport on a T-6 Texan aircraft courtesy of the Western Museum of Flight and the Commemorative Air Force. This particular experience was never on my bucket list, but when the opportunity presented itself, I thought, why the hell not? The entire experience was just fantastic from start to finish…..well, all except the pesky instruction on how to eject from the plane and pull the parachute cord. I must give a shout out to Museum Director Cindy Macha and pilot extraordinaire Chris LaFave. The Western Museum of Flight offers flights on different planes for a fee a few times each year, so if you’re interested, give Cindy a call and she’ll set you up. Anyway, you can read about my adventure, see a few pics and watch a few crazy videos at http://www.southbaybyjackie.com/wild-blue-yonder-t6-texan-flight-experience-wmof/.

The Torrance Historical Society will conduct a Memorial Service on Monday, May 29 at 2 p.m. at Memorial Plaza. The event recognizes Torrance service personnel who gave their lives in U.S. military actions. The program will take place at Memorial Plaza and will include the reading of the 146 names on the wall. Those names include war losses from World War I to those in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. With the help of a handful of volunteers, the Torrance Historical Society is continuing to gather and preserve the too-short life story of each of the Torrance military war causalities. To date, the organization is over halfway to their goal of putting a face on each name. They aspire to research, and place in the Museum archives, the story of each of these heroes. The Memorial Service is free and open to the public. For additional information, call the Museum at 310.328.5392 or visit the website at http://www.TorranceHistoricalSociety.org. Memorial Plaza is located at the corner of Torrance Boulevard and Maple Avenue in Torrance.
