3 Teens Arrested In Shooting Death Of Redwood City 18 Year Old: Police
Investigators allege three young suspects lured the victim to Alameda County where he was shot and killed.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — An 18-year-old Redwood City man was lured from his home on the Peninsula to Alameda County where he was killed by three teenage acquaintances, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office. The killing happened in October, but following multiple leads, investigators arrested the trio in December.
Deputies responded to a report of carjacking and possible shooting at 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 8 at an apartment complex on Miramar Avenue in Unincorporated San Leandro. Deputies found the victim, 18-year-old Leandro Iquite, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. EMS personnel transported him to a local hospital where he died.

Following several leads, investigators identified 18-year-old Yefry Aguilar Rubio as one of the suspects responsible for Iquite’s death, the sheriff's office reports. Aguilar Rubio was 17 when the crime happened and turned 18 later that month. Investigators found Aguilar Rubio’s 17-year-old girlfriend and her 16-year-old brother were also involved in the homicide, the sheriff's office said.

Aguilar Rubio and his girlfriend began discussing harming Iquite in June of 2023, according to investigators.
On Dec. 13, with the assistance of the Redwood City Police Department, investigators served search and arrest warrants at the suspects’ residences in Redwood City. Aguilar Rubio’s girlfriend and her brother were arrested at their home, where investigators recovered evidence related to the homicide, they report.
Aguilar Rubio was in custody in San Mateo County for an unrelated offense at the time. Investigators interviewed and arrested him for Iquite’s murder.
Meanwhile, the Fremont Police Department assisted the sheriff's office in serving a search warrant at a residence in Fremont, which the suspects visited before and after Iquite’s murder, according to the sheriff's office. In the residence, investigators found evidence of a substantial identity theft and fraud operation. The Fremont residents were arrested and investigators recovered additional evidence, including a stolen gun.

The case was submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for charges of conspiracy, carjacking, and homicide. The sheriff's office also requested that all three be tried as adults.
