REDWOOD CITY, CA — Dozens of people were displaced and several injured Monday evening when a fire ripped through a Redwood City apartment building.
The fire was first reported at 5:18 p.m. at a three-story, ten-unit apartment complex in the 1100 block of Whipple Avenue.
The three-alarm fire took an hour to knock down, according to Redwood City Fire Department Deputy Chief Shon Buford.
Twenty-three people were displaced and at least four people were transported to the hospital with injuries, he said. Some pets in the building escaped the fire but several were found deceased or are missing.
Details as to the cause of the fire are still under investigation at this time, according to Buford.
Whipple Road remained closed between El Camino Real and Clinton Street as of 8 p.m.
