WOODSIDE, CA — A horseback rider and horse were injured in a suspected hit-and-run crash Wednesday evening in Woodside, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies responded around 6:45 p.m. to Woodside Road near Hacienda Drive after receiving reports that a vehicle had struck a horse and rider traveling along the road's shoulder, according to the sheriff's office.
The horse was hit from behind, investigators said.
The rider was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. The horse was also injured but survived, police said.
The sheriff's office said investigators identified a suspected vehicle and its registered owners through witness statements and other investigative methods.
The investigation is expected to take several weeks before the case is submitted to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office for review.
