REDWOOD CITY, CA — A man was killed Tuesday night while trying to stop a driver who fled a crash in Redwood City, police said.
Officers responded around 7:41 p.m. on Tuesday to the 800 block of Woodside Road after receiving reports of a collision involving a pedestrian, according to the Redwood City Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found firefighters and paramedics performing lifesaving measures on an adult man. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The victim had been a passenger in a Jeep traveling south on Hudson Street when it was sideswiped by a Ford pickup truck exiting an alley near a Shell gas station, police said.
The Jeep's driver pulled over following the collision, but the pickup continued west on Woodside Road, according to RCPD.
Police said the victim then got out of the Jeep and attempted to stop the fleeing pickup while it was caught in traffic. During the confrontation, he fell from the vehicle and was struck by the pickup, officials said.
Officers and investigators searched the area, and a police drone later located the unoccupied pickup truck, which was seized as evidence.
Investigators also interviewed witnesses and collected surveillance video.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal collision remain under investigation.
