Unknown Marine Animal Bite Reported In SMC Lagoon: Police

FOSTER CITY, CA — A person was bitten by an unidentified creature in the Foster City lagoon Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The incident was reported near Shearwater Isle, according to the Foster City Police Department.

Based on an initial assessment, police said the injury is consistent with a bite from a small marine animal. The exact species has not been identified.

Police reminded residents that marine animals can occasionally enter the lagoon despite ongoing efforts to keep bay wildlife out of the waterway.

Authorities are asking anyone who observes unusual marine animal activity in the lagoon to report it to the Foster City Police Department.

Police said they are coordinating with the appropriate agencies and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
