The fatal crash happened around 7:41 p.m. on July 14 near the 800 block of Woodside Road.

Police said Cervantes was a passenger in a Jeep traveling south on Hudson Street when it was sideswiped by the Ford pickup as it exited a driveway behind a Shell gas station.

After the Jeep pulled over to exchange information, the pickup drove away without stopping, police said. As traffic slowed on Woodside Road, Cervantes chased the truck on foot and grabbed onto it in an attempt to stop the driver, authorities said.

Police said the driver accelerated, causing Cervantes to fall before he was run over.

Chacajlux surrendered to Redwood City police investigators the following day and was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death and gross vehicular manslaughter.

The investigation remains ongoing.
