FOSTER CITY, CA — A man was arrested after police said they caught him placing a fraudulent device on a Foster City ATM, authorities said.
Foster City police had been monitoring local ATMs after learning that someone was using hidden devices to trap cash inside machines, allowing them to return later and collect money left behind by unsuspecting customers.
Officers were watching Wells Fargo ATMs when they saw the suspect place a device on one of the machines, police said.
The man was arrested Friday and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on felony charges related to fraud and ATM tampering. Police did not release his identity at this time.
Authorities also said the suspect had an active out-of-state arrest warrant for other fraud offenses.
