📰 News we're reading

• Downed Pole Closes Part Of Road In Redwood City: Police (patch.com) — Drivers in Redwood City are being detoured after a utility pole came down, forcing police to close Bay Road between Eighth and 10th avenues for an extended period. With no estimate yet for reopening, residents are urged to avoid the area and plan alternate routes while crews address the situation.

• Día De Los Muertos Celebration Returns To Downtown Redwood City (patch.com) — Downtown Redwood City will transform into a colorful Día de los Muertos celebration on Nov. 8, filling Courthouse Square with altars, marigolds, children's activities, and traditional foods. The free event, highlighting the culture of Tlaxcala and broader Chicanx and Mexican American traditions, invites local families to honor loved ones and enjoy community-created ofrendas at the San Mateo County History Museum.

• Redwood City removes barricades on Southgate Street for Lawrie Duncan Park Pilot (rwcpulse.com) — Barricades have been removed from Southgate Street where it crosses Lawrie Duncan Park, restoring vehicle access while Redwood City evaluates whether to make the closure permanent. Neighbors remain sharply divided over safety and traffic impacts, and the city plans a community meeting in late October before deciding by year's end whether to permanently close the block to cars.
