Supervisors Consider Funding Highway Enforcement In SMC Foothills

The county is considering traffic enforcement funding, trail safety measures and other initiatives.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo County supervisors are set to consider a $125,000 grant for highway traffic enforcement in the foothills, along with measures addressing safety concerns at a new watershed trail, during Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting.

The grant, sponsored by Supervisor Ray Mueller and funded through Measure K, would go to the Town of Woodside to support dedicated California Highway Patrol enforcement on highways 84, 35, also known as Skyline Boulevard, and 9.

The initiative targets speeding and motorcycle and racing activity along rural mountain corridors, according to Mueller's office. The item is listed as Item 18 on the board's Oct. 20 agenda.

Supervisors will also consider a resolution sponsored by Mueller asking the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission to address traffic, pedestrian, parking and visitor-management hazards following the opening of the new Skyline Watershed Ridge Trail. That proposal is listed as Item 20.

Other items flagged by Mueller's office include formal commendations for community members serving on the South Coast Traffic Advisory Panel, which advocates for highway safety on highways 84, 35 and 9. The recognition is listed as Item 2.

The board is also scheduled to consider accepting the first annual report from the county's Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement, covering July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.

The office, co-sponsored by Mueller, investigates wage theft, seeks to recover unpaid earnings and enforces workplace safety standards for vulnerable workers in agriculture, service industries and construction. The report is listed as Item 16.
