Here is a description of these two artist’s expressive approaches and discoveries through their Silent Light Small Wonders journey:
Silent Light is a telling title for photographer Arup Biswas’s show at The Main Gallery. His selected works share a natural landscape theme composed with and without figures, however, below the surface of this commonality, there also swells a unifying whispering glow. Such radiance is “a way of life, a philosophy of simplicity, contemplation, and empathy” explains Biswas. He recounts that practicing mediation has shaped how he approaches a subject to photograph. He describes that the meditative mind has “helped him to be quiet and listen to nature.”
In the Small Wonders emphasis of the show, small-scale paintings by watercolorist Arena Shawn calls attention to the beauty found in focused observation. Striving for the emotional quality in every piece, Shawn’s quiet, light, subtle colors and playful shapes evoke the sense of wonder and awe, that in our everyday life, is so often taken for granted. Shawn characterizes her new work as small with conventional subject matter, but describes that each piece “contains unique wonder and beauty.” Her watercolor collection includes floral, still life compositions, as well as plein-air landscape paintings, that were created in Bay Area locations such as Point Reyes and Muir Beach, as well as the marshes around Bayland Park.
Don’t miss seeing and experiencing the quite essence of Silent Light Small Wonders, at The Main Gallery.
