Building on a Foundation: 17 x 17k Labor Day Rally on El Camino Real
A #SolidaritySeptember mass mobilization
to defend democracy and stand up against authoritarianism in all forms
Labor Day, Monday September 1, 11am - 1 pm, south-bound/west-bound side of El Camino Real from Claremont Avenue in Redwood City to Lawrence Expressway in Santa Clara.
Witness us make history again, with plans for the Peninsula’s largest political protest, surpassing our June 14 record-setting event. SEVENTEEN MILES, SEVENTEEN THOUSAND PEOPLE. 17 x 17k Labor Day Rally is coordinated by long-time organizers IdaRose Sylvester and Sally Lieber, of Together We Will, and co-sponsors across the Peninsula. Building on the foundation of the hugely successful 7 x 7k rally on June 14, 17 x 17k Labor Day will be another historic rally, stretching seventeen miles on El Camino Real, between Redwood City and Santa Clara, running through Atherton, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Mountain View and Sunnyvale. This event will take place only on the south side of El Camino. Click here for more information and to sign up https://tinyurl.com/historic17....
As in our 7 x 7k No Kings event, organizers plan for seventeen thousand people (or more) to stretch, single file from Redwood City to Santa Clara in an unbroken line of solidarity against authoritarianism and corruption, and to support labor, back environmental protections, promote human rights, and protect democracy and the rule of law. This event is accessible to young and old, to those with mobility issues and to those who have never protested before, but want a chance to stand up against tyranny. This is a peaceful protest, and participants will not block access to intersections, businesses, transit stops, or sidewalks.
17 x 17k is part of the thousands of #SolidaritySeptember and #WorkersOverBillionaires rallies across the country planned for Labor Day. On June 14, we asked for 7000 people to come have their voices heard - we got close to 20,000. We will keep growing as more and more people know that we all need to take a stand to defend our democracy.
