At the heart of the program is the Bay Area premiere of Roberto Sierra's Sinfonía No. 3, “La Salsa”. One of today's most engaging and accessible contemporary composers, the Puerto Rican-born Sierra brings the infectious rhythms of the Caribbean into the concert hall. Raymond Scott’s Powerhouse transforms mechanical motion into music, Daugherty’s playful virtuosity sparks humor, and Britten’s brilliant variations reinvent tradition through imagination and precision. The orchestra becomes a living machine of color, motion, and wit.
