Driver Charged In Deadly Crash In SMC That Killed Mother And Seriously Injured Her 2 Sons: DA

SAN MATEO, CA — A 76-year-old man has been charged with felony vehicular manslaughter in connection with a 2025 crash that killed a San Mateo mother and injured her two young sons, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.

John Roland Deloach, 76, faces charges stemming from the July 31, 2025, collision on Alameda de las Pulgas, prosecutors said. The charges followed a lengthy investigation by San Mateo police and a review by the California Highway Patrol.

Police said a Ford SUV exiting eastbound Highway 92 ran a red light and struck a Toyota Prius traveling north on Alameda de las Pulgas with a green light.

The Prius was driven by Yina Ramos Bello, 30, who was traveling with her two young sons. Bello died at the scene, while both children were taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, authorities said.

Deloach, who was alone in the SUV, suffered minor injuries. Police did not identify him at the time.

Investigators said shortly after the crash that Deloach was not impaired and that they were working to determine why he failed to stop for the red light.

In the days following Bello's death, community members launched a fundraiser to help her husband, Alejandro Londoño Rojas, with funeral costs, hospital bills and other expenses as he cared for their injured children.

The crash also forced authorities to close Alameda de las Pulgas and the eastbound Highway 92 ramps for around four hours while investigators worked at the scene.
