Free Cardiac Screening for Sequoia Union District High School Students

Free Cardiac Screening for Sequoia Union District High School Students on March 22 at Sequoia High School

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is not a heart attack. It’s an abnormality in the heart’s electrical system that abruptly stops the heartbeat. It’s fatal in 92 percent of cases if not properly treated within minutes. Among teens in the U.S., 1 in 100 have an underlying heart condition that can put them at risk. Thousands of kids die annually from SCA. These kids could’ve been saved with a simple EKG.

Attendance is restricted to enrolled District students.

Students will receive a free EKG test that will be evaluated by a cardiologist. Should the student’s family history or the EKG results warrant, the student will also receive an echocardiogram. The entire process is non-evasive and we assure each teen’s confidentiality, privacy and individual modesty. Boys and girls will be screened separately. Results are scrutinized by certified cardiologists and referrals may be made to the teen’s family doctor.

Partner organizations include Sequoia Hospital, the Via Foundation, the San Francisco State University Nursing Program and Eric Paredes Save a Life Foundation (San Diego non-profit transporting and providing EKG and echo equipment for the event).

Several NFL Alumni and Olympians will be present to greet students.
