Woodside High School presents Leonard Bernstein’s vibrant 1940’s musical, ON THE TOWN, with five performances March 16th/17th/18th and 23rd/24th, 2018 at the Woodside High School Performing Arts Center, 199 Churchill Avenue in Woodside, CA. Tickets are available online (https://www.whsdramaboosters.org/) or by calling the Box Office @ (650) 367-9750 (x43706).

Bursting with energy, ON THE TOWN tells the story of 3 sailors on shore leave in New York City before shipping off to battle in World War II. With only 24 hours to see the sights of Manhattan, the trio sets out to find romance & adventure, setting in motion a string of upsets and delightful surprises, with a chase across the city that’s humorous, touching, and action-packed.

ON THE TOWN is considered an American classic for its soaring music by Leonard Bernstein, strong use of dance in the story-telling, and bold charm, reflecting the youthful vigor of its creators. Writers Betty Comden & Adolph Green injected playful wit in the lyrics and book, and the legendary Jerome Robbins choreographed the original show (which was based on his ballet “Fancy Free”). ON THE TOWN became the first Broadway musical for all 4 collaborators, each in their mid-twenties when the show opened in 1944. Bernstein and Robbins would later go on to create “West Side Story”, forever altering the shape of American musical theater.
