How SBSA is Accommodating Sewer for New County Jail

The schedule for SBSA's 48-inch pipeline improvement project portion on Maple Street is being altered slightly in order to accommodate a request from San Mateo County in conjunction with their construction of a new jail at Maple Street and Blomquist.  

The County requested changes to their sewer line for the jail and settled on a specific design and alignment of a 20-inch (instead of a 10-inch) gravity sewer line. The new sewer poses a significant change to the sequencing of SBSA's work on Maple Street because the sewer line elevation is lower than SBSA's 48-inch force main. Therefore, the work to install the sewer needs to occur before the 48-inch force main can be placed.

All work on Maple Street is planned to be done by open-cut trench methods and this also poses additional costs and time because the trench needs to be deeper and wider than originally designed. The sequencing of SBSA's work will necessitate a time extension of 31 calendar days for the Maple Street work. The County is paying $500,000 for its sewer.
