Larry Ellison Makes Top 5 on Forbes List of Billionaires
The Oracle founder announced a reduced role in 2014 for the company he founded and guided.

Tech titans once again dominated the list of Californians on the annual Forbes List of Billionaires. The highest ranked for 2015—Oracle founder Larry Ellison at No. 5.
Ellison’s net worth on Mar. 3, 2015 is $53.6 billion. Forbes paid homage to the database software pioneer, “Larry Ellison is arguably the first Silicon Valley tech entrepreneur to live large and fast…A sailing fanatic, he’s the main backer of America’s Cup winner Oracle Team USA. Ellison has continued to gobble up properties on the Hawaiian island of Lanai, which he bought for a reported $300 million in 2012, and is said to own every hotel room on the island.”
Ellison announced plans in 2014 to step down as Oracle CEO but he remains chairman and chief technology officer.

Forbes, which has been compiling the list since 1986, says the rankings show entrepreneurship is alive and well: 1,191 members of the list are self-made billionaires, while only 230 inherited their fortunes.
