Make a Difference in One Hour a Week

Volunteer as a Reading Partner in Redwood City Elementary Schools

Reading Partners is a non-profit organization that mobilizes community volunteers to provide one-on-one tutoring to elementary students who struggle with reading. They are seeking dedicated volunteers to tutor for one hour a week in any one of seven elementary schools in Redwood City. Volunteer schedules are flexible with reading centers open Monday through Thursday 9AM to 5PM. Tutors are paired with the same student all semester to build a strong mentoring relationship. No tutoring experience is required to volunteer. Tutors are provided with an easy-to-follow curriculum that includes all of the books and step-by-step lesson plans needed to teach essential reading skills. Each reading center also has a on-site staff member to support tutors and students at all times. Reading Partners volunteers make an enormous impact: on average, students double their rate of learning while enrolled in the program.
