Mountain Lion Sighting on Alpine Road Monday Night
Hikers and joggers are advised to avoid outdoor activities at dawn and dusk.

A mountain lion was sighted Monday night in Portola Valley, according to the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services. The cat was seen in the 3500 block of Alpine Road around 8:15 p.m., according to officials.
In the event of a mountain lion encounter, experts advise the public to pick up small children, face the animal, make noise, try to look bigger and throw things at the lion.
Hikers and joggers are advised to avoid outdoor activities at dawn and dusk, when mountain lions are most active, and at night, OES officials said.
