Mountain Lion Spotted in La Honda
This is the third sighting this month and the second one this week.

A recent mountain lion sighting near La Honda Thursday has San Mateo County officials, once again, warning residents to take precaution.

Around 8 p.m., a mountain was seen in the near the 11000 block of La Honda Road, according to the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services.
Although most mountain lions will try to avoid a confrontation, residents should not approach one if they see one, especially if it is feeding or with its offspring, county officials said.

Mountain lions are most active during dawn, dusk and at night so residents should avoid hiking and jogging during these times, according to county officials.
In the case of a mountain lion encounter, residents are advised not to run and instead face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving hands and arms. Additionally throwing rocks and other objects can help scare off the animal, according to county officials.
Thursday’s sighting is the latest among several sightings that have occurred in San Mateo County recently.
On July 23, witnesses reported seeing a mountain lion near Loma Mar Avenue and Pescadero Creek Road in Loma Mar.
On July 14, a mountain lion was spotted with its cub near Old La Honda and Portola roads in Woodside.
And on July 11, a witness reported seeing a mountain lion near the 4100 block of Jefferson Avenue in Redwood City.
