Nearly 600 Drivers Screened At Redwood City DUI Checkpoint: Police

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Redwood City police issued nine citations and made no arrests during a DUI checkpoint held over the weekend, according to the department.

The checkpoint was held on Woodside Road near Carolina Avenue from 7:30 p.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday, police said.

About 591 vehicles were contacted or screened. Three drivers were assessed for DUI, but none was arrested.

Four drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a license, while five others received citations for various moving violations.

Police said checkpoint locations are selected based on reported crashes involving impaired driving. The checkpoints are intended to promote road safety by identifying suspected impaired drivers.

The operation was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
