Pedestrian Killed Walking On Highway In Redwood City: Police

The victim was struck by an SUV while walking in traffic lanes on the freeway, police said.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A pedestrian was killed Saturday morning after being struck by an SUV on Highway 101 in Redwood City, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred before dawn on northbound Highway 101 just south of Whipple Avenue, police said.

CHP said the pedestrian was walking and running in traffic lanes on the freeway before the collision.

Authorities said a Mazda SUV struck the pedestrian in the far-left lane.

The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.

The pedestrian, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mazda and a passenger in the vehicle were not injured, CHP said.

All northbound lanes were closed for about an hour following the crash before reopening.

CHP is continuing to investigate and is seeking additional witnesses.
