Pipeline construction activity on Inner Bair Island will pick up considerably starting today.
• For at least three weeks, the contractor will be installing sheet piles with a vibratory mechanism. During this period it will be loud and the vibrations will be experienced by the apartments and condominiums on Bair Island Road. For our industry, this is a typical and safe construction method. We did it on Maple Street near Docktown a few months ago. We want to express regret for the disruption that this construction period may cause ‐ construction will be during the city‐approved 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays‐Fridays. There will be trucks carrying materials to and from the construction site. A crane and other construction equipment will be staged in the Reach 5 work area as well.
• After the contractor completes the pile installation, they will be doing excavation to the bottom of the receiving shaft. This work will continue for three months but will have standard construction noise and vibration. This will complete Unit 1 of the 48 inch pipeline project and prepare Inner Bair Island for the phase that moves the pipeline toward the Silicon Valley Clean Water plant.

• There is also activity on Inner Bair Island that is visible from the condominiums and apartments on Bair Island Road that involves the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's restoration project to restore the tidal wetlands environment. Their contractor, Pacific States Environmental Contractors, Inc., is building up the levees, and will be doing so for several months.
