Project READ's Backpack Give Away gets kids Back-to-School READY!
Annual Backpack Give Away provides needed backpacks and school supplies to Project READ students.
Over 200 Project READ learners, families and friends attended Project READ's annual Back-to-School Backpack Give Aways this month. With the generous help of community volunteers, Project READ was able to give away over 100 backpacks filled with school supplies and hardbound dictionaries to start students off right this school year. Over 140 students went home with backpacks for school or lunch bags filled with crayons and early learning materials for preschool. This long-standing Project READ tradition is an exciting way to kick off the school year and help get our families have a positive start.
The the event was broken into two evenings this year with the help of children's performers, Andy Z and his world of imagination and Samba Samba, who lead students in an evening of percussion. Hands On Bay Area (HOBA) volunteers pitched in distributing backpacks and leading craft tables.
A big thank you to all community and HOBA volunteers for making this very important event such a successful one.
