RCEF Presents Grammy Award Winner Pacific Mambo Orchestra

Benefit concert to keep music in Redwood City schools and heat up a cold January night with sizzling Latin Big Band sound

Grammy Award winner and SF Guardian Best of Bay favorite, PACIFIC MAMBO ORCHESTRA will play a benefit concert supporting more than 5,000 elementary school music students on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the historic Fox Theatre in downtown Redwood City. All proceeds support the Music for Learning program funded by the Redwood City Education Foundation (RCEF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching and advancing education opportunities for all children in the Redwood City School District.

The surprise winner of the 2014 Grammy for Best Tropical Latin Album, PACIFIC MAMBO ORCHESTRA beat-out big label luminaries with its crowd-funded debut album. The 20 members of PACIFIC MAMBO ORCHESTRA infuse the Latin Big Band sounds of the 1940s to 1960s with sizzling arrangements and high energy, original compositions by co-founders Steffen Kuehn and Christian Tumalan. “The people of Redwood City were a great support to me when I was starting out,” said Tumalan. “This is PMO’s chance to give back to the community, and there’s no better way for musicians to do that than by supporting a music program for kids.”

With funds from the RCEF, the Redwood City School District is able to offer music as part of a well-rounded education. “Without this early exposure to music, many children would not discover their passion or learn the value of hard work and perseverance while mastering new skills,” said Redwood City School District Superintendent Jan Christensen. “Some students have

“On behalf of Redwood City students, we are grateful to PMO for donating its time and talents and we appreciate Fox Theatre’s generous support,” said RCEF Board Member, Erika Pretell. “We’re thrilled to bring this exciting group to Redwood City. This show will definitely heat up an otherwise cold January night!”
