Redwood City high schools named top in the nation

Summit Prep and Everest recognized by U.S. News & World Report

Two Redwood City high schools, Summit Prep and Everest, were recognized as among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in May.

The annual U.S. News rankings include data on more than 20,500 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

Summit Prep High School, located at 890 Broadway St., was ranked as 136 in the nation, 16 in California, and 47 among charter high schools nationwide. Everest High School, located at 455 Fifth Ave., was ranked as 212 in the nation, 31 in California, and 72 among charter high schools nationwide. Both schools earned a gold medal.

Summit Public Schools operates eight public charter schools serving middle and high school students in the San Francisco Bay Area. All are free and open to the public. The schools focus on personalized learning and a college prep curriculum.
