Redwood City Man Charged With 2 Peninsula Home Invasion Sexual Assaults

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A 30-year-old Redwood City man has been charged in connection with two home invasion sexual assault cases in Redwood City and San Carlos after investigators from two law enforcement agencies linked him to both crimes.

The Redwood City Police Department said officers responded July 5 to a home on Jackson Avenue, where investigators determined an intruder entered the residence while the victims were asleep and sexually assaulted an adult woman before fleeing.

During the investigation, detectives identified Jose Manuel Gonzalez Cruz as a suspect and located him Tuesday in Redwood City.

Authorities later determined he was also the suspect in a May 10 home invasion and sexual assault in San Carlos that was under investigation by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
Cruz was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on Wednesday.

The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office filed charges Friday, including two counts of assault with intent to commit a sexual offense during a first-degree burglary, as well as attempted first-degree burglary, peeking or prying while loitering, and indecent exposure.
