Resident Interrupts Burglary In Peninsula Home: Police

The suspect fled the scene on after the homeowner confronted them, police said.

PALO ALTO, CA — A homeowner interrupted an unknown suspect stealing items from his garage Saturday evening in Palo Alto, police said.

At around 5:29 p.m. on Saturday Palo Alto police said they received a call about a burglary had just occurred at a home on the 4100 block of Sutherland Drive. Police said the resident, a man in his 40s, discovered an unfamiliar person placing items into a bag in his garage.

Police said the man confronted the suspect and immediately fled the garage through the door and jumped over a fence to escape.

Police said that units arrived within minutes and searched the area, but the suspect had already fled.

Police said they believe the suspect gained entry to the garage through an unlocked door. The victim described the suspect as around 5 feet 9 inches tall and was wearing a mask.

No items have been reported stolen at this time, police said.

Detectives said they are actively investigating the incident.
