Roosevelt’s Coyle Snags Teacher of the Year Honors
Sixth grade language arts and social studies teacher among two honored by county superintendent. A Menlo-Atherton English teacher is the other.

A Roosevelt School teacher was among two instructors named by the San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools on Wednesday at its 2013 San Mateo County Teachers of the Year.
Sarah Coyle, a sixth grade language arts and social studies teacher at Roosevelt School was named Teacher of the Year for Elementary Education.
Marei Kane, an English and English Language Development (ELD) teacher at Menlo-Atherton High School in the received the San Mateo County Teacher of the Year honors for middle and high schools.

Coyle’s background includes involvement in a pilot program for the use of iPods to develop reading skills. She is a proponent of project-based learning.
Coyle established an afterschool homework/tutoring club, training volunteers to help students with their homework.

“(Coyle) is a committed professional whose high expectations for her students result in their buoyed confidence and measurable academic growth,” San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools Anne Campbell said in a prepared statement.
“Her enthusiasm and creativity combine to produce a fun and adventurous learning environment.”
Kane is described as a world traveler who speaks of five languages and brings a global perspective to her work.
Menlo-Atherton Principal Matthew Zito called Kane a “a true innovator and educational leader.”
"(Kane) is remarkable for her many skills and talents, but in particular, for how she meets the needs of all learners, scaffolding rigorous and engaging lessons for students of all abilities,” Campbell said in a statement.
“Her approach with differentiated instruction provides the necessary support for all her students to realize success.”
