San Mateo Co. Gives $7M Of Safety Equipment To Agencies In Need

Dozens of nonprofit organizations and governement agencies will receive a surplus of gowns, goggles and cleaning materials.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Last year, $7 million worth of supplies stored at the San Mateo Event Center were left outside during a rainstorm. The undamaged equipment will now be distributed to nonprofits and agencies in need in San Mateo County, officials said.

The county purchased the equipment early on in the pandemic when municipalities across the U.S. were competing to secure protective supplies to keep frontline workers safe, according to a Tuesday release from the Board of Supervisors.

Most of the non-medical supplies were individually wrapped and were not damaged in the rain storm, officials wrote in a statement.
