Scholarship Awarded by Hearing Loss Association-Peninsula Chapter
Scholarship Award from HLAA Hearing Loss Association of America Peninsula Chapter

The Peninsula Chapter of HLAA, Hearing Loss Association of America, awarded Nathan Dougherty a check for $2,000.00 toward his education at the University of Oregon this coming Fall. Nathan is the son of Sean and Maya Dougherty of San Mateo. Nathan has been active all four years of high school in Choir and Lacrosse. He is excited about this next step; though he isn’t sure of his career goals, he expects to grow as a person and make some significant contributions.
A second award of $1,000.00 was given to Noelia Brambila-Perez who plans to go to Sonoma State this Fall as well. Noelia is the daughter of Josefina Perez and Gilberto Brambila of East Palo Alto. Noelia has volunteered as a soccer coach and as a referee; in addition, she has helped out in various community events. She plans to study Kinesiology, but is open to other possibilities. Noelia is very motivated to be an example for her younger siblings, and to “beat down stereotypes with hard work and plenty of resilience.”
The Peninsula Chapter of HLAA, Hearing Loss Association of America, is honored to be the recipient of a $3,000.00 grant from the Easter Cross Foundation of Redwood City that allowed our chapter to give academic scholarships to these two exceptional high school graduates, both who have a hearing loss and are role models in their schools and communities.
