Students Found With Gun In Locker Charged In SMC: Police
A staff member's observation led to the discovery of the weapon by the school resource officer, police said.
ATHERTON, CA — Two students at Menlo-Atherton High School are facing charges after a gun was discovered inside a backpack in an athletic locker on campus, police announced Friday.
Atherton Police Department officers said that a school staff member saw the two students placing the backpack inside the locker around 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The students appeared to intentionally block the view of the locker while doing so, prompting the staff member's suspicion, police said.
Tthe staff member opened the locker after the students left and immediately discovered the gun inside the backpack, police said.

Police said they identified the two students, and charges have been filed, including possession of a firearm on a school campus, minor in possession of a handgun and possession of a firearm without a serial number.
Police said the gun was not brandished at any point and there are no known related threats to the campus community.
