Track Superstars to Watch for

These students are returning for another successful track season. Keep your eye on them before they blaze past you.

From track coach Adrian Dilley:

Last season, a total of 15 Sequoia Track athletes qualified for the CCS sectional meet (2nd to only Menlo-Atherton's 18 in the Peninsula Athletic League).  Here are a few of the top returners for this coming season:

BOYS
(Sr.)- Leads the boys varsity squad as a top-ranked 200m/400m sprinter as well as a key member of the 4x400m relay team. Although he's rehabilitating from a Fall '11 football injury, Gabriel's recovery is moving along smoothly as he looks to reign the sprints in the PAL for 2012.

Abhineet Ram (Sr.)- A CCS qualifier in the discus, is just starting to put all the pieces together to become one of the top talents in the throwing events in the PAL.  Ram's throw of 136'0" in '11 was one of the top discus marks at Sequoia for over the past 15 years.  He looks to top 145'0" in the discus and 45'0" in the shot put this season.

(Sr.)- Paced the Sequoia Cross-Country team in the Fall with a nice time of 16:38 for the Crystal Springs 5K course.  Avila looks to lead the Cherokee distance squad on the track this Spring in the 1600m/3200m distance combo.

GIRLS
Alex Bliss (Jr.)- Contributed 2 Sequoia school records as a sophomore in
'11 in both the 800m (2:25.97) and the 4x100m Relay (51.95).  Along with
twin Alyssa, the Bliss' will cover a variety of events from 200m up to
800m as well as both relay events.

Bulou Mataitoga (Sr.)- Narrowly missed qualifying in 4 CCS events last
year as an 11th grader, had strong showings in both hurdle events and
the Long Jump.  Looks to regain her dual-meet dominance from '11 where
she contributed the most girls team points the entire season.  Team MVP
in '11.

(Jr.)- Newcomer in 2011, really made an impact this past
XC season for the Cherokees placing 28th in her CCS Division 1 race
(20:06) over 5K.  Looks to make a huge impact on the track by pacing the
SEQ girls distance squad that is up and coming.

Megan Bartoshuk (Jr.)- Also a newcomer to track in 2011.  Qualified for
the CCS section meet in 3 events as a sprinter (200m, 4x100m Relay, and
4x400m Relay).  Looks to pair up with long time childhood friends Alex
and Alyssa Bliss to blaze up the track in 2012.
