Here is more about our school and our plan with this grant: Hoover Elementary currently serves 700 Kinder to 8th Grade students in the Redwood City School District. The majority are English Learners and the majority qualify for free or reduced lunch. With rents skyrocketing in the area, our families are struggling to stay in the area. We continue to tap into all of our community resources to support our families in greatest need. Every day our teachers are committed to providing the best education for our students and laying the foundation for college and career. Hoover is currently the California demonstration site for the Sobrato Early Academic Learning (SEAL) program in Prek to 3rd grade. We have hosted hundreds of educators who have come to visit our classrooms and learn how our teachers successfully support second language learners meet the demands and rigor of common core. But we know our students need more support to have a chance at a future career in the Silicon Valley. With this grant, we would support closing the digital divide by purchasing chromebooks for our 8th grade students to be able to check out and they would be able to continue their 21st century learning at home.
