Wendy Waller joins The Denny Berthiaume Trio at Angelica's Nov. 4

The Art of the Trio series, which began in 2013, features a different trio plus vocalist every week for a fresh and invigorating jazz performance. The trio for the November 4 performance will be The Denny Berthiaume Trio, consisting of Mickey McPhillips on bass, Rob Gibson on drums, and Denny Berthiaume on piano. This trio has been performing together since 2004, have released two CDs together, and is in the process of compiling a third CD. Denny Berthiaume has performed with Bobby McFerrin, Diane Schuur, Joe Williams, Ed Thigpen, Stan Getz, k.d.lang, and Joan Rivers. He recorded four albums as co-leader of the successful fusion group Solar Plexus, and has appeared at jazz festivals in Monterey, the Russian River, San Jose, and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. He was a professor in literature and music at Foothill College in Los Altos, California, for 34 years and is a published playwright.

Wendy Waller has been singing, performing, and teaching music since 1986. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, she attended the New England Conservatory of Music, and later went on to study with Patti Cathcart, Bobby McFerrin, David Baker, and Joe Henderson. Her remarkable vocal range is more than matched by her ability to navigate jazz, R&B, folk, contemporary, gospel, and her own original music with ease. A classically trained coloratura soprano, Waller has also performed several leading roles in musical theater, and plays piano and guitar. Waller has released three albums of music: “Traces of Grace,” “Beauty Queen,” and “Dance of a Thousand Fools,” and contributed vocals to Chris Isaak’s “Speak of the Devil.” She has performed internationally as well as in Bay Area venues such as The Little Fox Theater, The Throckmorton Theater, and Tateuchi Hall at the Finn Center.
