1. 2 Brush Fires In RivCo Break Out Amid Heat Advisory Wednesday (patch.com) — Firefighters from Cal Fire/Riverside County quickly knocked down two small brush fires Wednesday, one near Rainbow by I-15 and another in the Badlands east of Moreno Valley, with no structures threatened. Crews from Riverside and San Diego counties stopped each blaze at about an acre, containing the Moreno Valley-area fire within an hour while investigators work to determine the cause.
   

2. RivCo Woman Accused Of Killing Child In DUI Crash Released From Custody (patch.com) — A San Jacinto woman charged in a DUI crash that killed a 7‑year‑old girl at a Perris intersection has been released on a $250,000 bond, with arraignment set at the Riverside Hall of Justice. Sheriff's investigators allege she ran a red light on Ramona Expressway, causing a high‑speed collision that critically injured the child's brother and hurt other family members.
   

3. Update: Taffle Fire in Riverside County hits full containment by Wednesday afternoon (sanluisobispo.com) — Fire crews have fully contained the 77‑acre Taffle Fire that started Aug. 14 near Hemet in Riverside County, with control lines now surrounding the entire burn area. While the wildfire may continue burning inside the perimeter, officials say it is not expected to spread further as they work toward full control.
   

4. Advocates Press Riverside to Reverse Affordable Housing Rejection Ahead of Civil Rights Mediation (davisvanguard.org) — Riverside officials are under renewed pressure to reconsider the City Council's rejection of funding to convert a University Avenue Quality Inn into 114 units of permanent supportive housing. Civil rights and housing advocates say the decision discriminated against disabled and low‑income residents, worsened Riverside's severe affordable housing shortage, and could violate multiple California anti‑discrimination laws now under mediation.
