Raging 5 Alarm Fire In Oakland Controlled
The fire tore through an under-construction building in downtown Oakland.
OAKLAND, CA — A five-alarm fire roared through an under-construction building near downtown Oakland in the pre-dawn hours. Firefighters are now putting out hot spots. There have been no reports of injuries.
The building was a four-story condo complex near the intersection of West Grand Avenue and Filbert Street. The Oakland Fire Department did not send any crews inside the building to try to save it. Instead, they set up crews to battle the flames from the outside only.
The fire was reported just after 2 a.m. Arriving crews report golf ball sized embers raining down from the towering fire.
