60-Year-Old Oakland Bicyclist Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver

A 57-year-old woman cycling with him was also struck by the vehicle.

OAKLAND, CA — A 60-year-old Oakland man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while bicycling in Oakland on Tuesday night, police said.

The man and a 57-year-old woman were biking south in the 1000 block of 69th Avenue at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday when they were struck by a vehicle that was also traveling south, according to police.

The Oakland Fire Department and emergency medical services responded to the collision but the 60-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The 57-year-old woman was treated for minor injuries at the scene and was released, according to police.

The driver of the vehicle fled the area south on 69th Avenue, police said.

Authorities didn't release a description of the driver but described the vehicle as a newer model that's maroon in color.

Police are withholding the 60-year-old man's name pending notification of his family members.

The collision is still under investigation and police do not know if drugs or alcohol were factors.
