Amtrak Train Strikes, Kills Person in Oakland
The Capitol Corridor train hit the person near the Fruitvale Avenue crossing.

One person died after being struck by an Amtrak train this afternoon in Oakland, an agency spokeswoman said.
A Capitol Corridor train was traveling to the Oakland Coliseum station just before 1 p.m. when it struck a trespasser on the tracks near the Fruitvale Avenue crossing, Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.
The person died as a result, Graham said. She said she did not have any information about the person’s identity.

The tracks were closed until 4 p.m., which caused delays for four Capitol Corridor trains and one long-distance Coast Starlight train, Graham said.
