Are Bikes on Sidewalks Still a Problem in Rockridge?

You tell us.

The issue of sidewalk cycling popped up several years ago, when Oakland police started to crack down on rule-breaking cyclists -- riding on the sidewalk apparently carries a fine in Oakland. California cities can adopt individual ordinances that ban bicycle sidewalk riding.

The Greater Rockridge Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council recently received complaints from a resident. The complaints were about bicycles zooming down Rockrigde sidewalks – especially College Avenue – nearly mowing down pedestrians.

Countless bicycles can be spotted along any of Rockridge’s busier streets, but it’s unclear how big of a problem sidewalk bicycling really is.
