OAKLAND, CA -- A driver was seriously injured this afternoon when a red Toyota Prius veered off eastbound State Highway 24 near the State Highway 13 offramp, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident was reported about 3:42 p.m., when the car veered off the roadway, down an embankment and through a fence, ending up near the entrance to the Temescal Regional Recreation Area, and Lake Temescal, the CHP said.
The drivers of at least three other vehicles stopped to help.

The driver of the Prius was taken to an area hospital. More information on the driver was not immediately available.
No other vehicles were involved, and no one else was injured, the CHP said.
