Most training programs run on guesswork. Custom Fit replaces it with measurement. At its San Francisco studios, Personal Training and Partner Training memberships include unlimited DEXA body-composition scans and VO2 max testing — diagnostics usually sold one scan at a time or reserved for specialized clinics. Custom Fit members can test as often as they train. The reasoning is straightforward. A DEXA scan measures fat, lean muscle, and bone density with clinical precision. A VO2 max test measures the body's maximum oxygen uptake, one of the strongest predictors of cardiovascular fitness and long-term health. Run those tests on a regular cadence and a member can see exactly what is changing, where, and whether a program is working — rather than relying on the scale or the mirror. That is the idea behind Custom Fit's positioning: not a gym, a performance lab. Every program is built from a member's measured body composition and cardiovascular capacity, then adjusted as the data moves. The goal is to eliminate the guesswork that defines most fitness routines and to treat training as something you can verify. A man fatally shot while in a car near Oakland's Lake Merritt on Tuesday night has been identified by police as a 34-year-old Georgia resident. Adrian Pettaway of Fairburn, Georgia, was found suffering gunshot wounds when police responded to reports of shots fired in the 1900 block of Fifth Avenue at 7:32 p.m., according to police. Pettaway was pronounced dead at 7:51 p.m. Police have not released any information about possible suspects or a motive in Pettaway's death. Conquering College 101 helps students build the executive functioning, study, and life skills needed to thrive academically, socially, and independently during their first year.

Middle school is an exciting milestone, but it’s also one of the biggest transitions students experience. Suddenly, they’re expected to manage multiple teachers, keep track of assignments across classes, stay organized, plan ahead, and take on more independence.
The challenge is that many students don’t realize they’re missing these skills until they’re already feeling overwhelmed. At SOS4Students, we’ve worked with countless middle school students who came to us after struggling with these new expectations. We saw the same patterns again and again, which is why we created Mastering Middle School.
This summer workshop helps rising middle schoolers build the executive functioning skills they’ll need before the school year begins. During the intensive session on August 1–2 at Orinda Academy, students will learn practical strategies for:
• Organization and managing materials • Time management and task management • Homework routines and study strategies • Effective note-taking • Self-advocacy and communicating with teachers • Navigating the increased independence of middle school
Students will also have the opportunity to return for a follow-up session on September 12 to reinforce skills and prepare for a successful transition into the school year.
