Update: 1 Dead in Oakland 2-Alarm Warehouse Fire

OAKLAND, CA - A person who firefighters believe was homeless died in a fire at a warehouse early this morning near the Oakland Coliseum, a battalion chief said.

The two-alarm fire was first reported at 3:15 a.m. at a former recreational vehicle showroom at 796 66th Ave., adjacent to the Coliseum's parking lot, Oakland Fire Battalion Chief Demond Simmons said.

Crews arrived to find large flames coming from the structure, but were able to extinguish the blaze by 4 a.m. The structure at one time was home to Cruise America Motorhome Rentals. The Alameda County coroner's bureau has not released the identity of the person who died.

No one else was injured, Simmons said. Firefighters suspect that homeless people were living in the two-story structure. The fire caused about $250,000 in damage, consisting of moderate interior damage and slightly less than moderate structural damage, Simmons said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
