Oakland Police Officer Shot With Rifle, Suspect Killed
The wounded officer has undergone surgery.

One person is dead and an Oakland police officer is in stable condition this morning following a confrontation involving a rifle.
At 1:32 a.m. uniformed officers responded to the 3800 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard, according to police.
While at the scene, the officers encountered a suspect armed with a rifle. The suspect allegedly shot one of the officers, police said.

The two officers returned fire, striking the suspect, according to police.
The injured officer and the suspect were both taken to a hospital. The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. The officer remained in stable condition as of 5 a.m. this morning, according to police. According to the Oakland Tribune, the officer has undergone surgery.

Officers were able to recover the rifle from the scene and are continuing to investigate the incident, police said.
