Oakland Woman Arrested, Police Officer Hurt At SF Pride Protest

SAN FRANCISCO, CA —Two people were arrested late Sunday morning, and one police officer injured, during a protest at the San Francisco Pride Parade.

Taryn Saldivar, 21, of Oakland was arrested on suspicion of battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and interfering with a parade route. Kenneth Bilecki, 27, of Santa Rosa was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and interfering with a parade route, San Francisco police said.

The protest started shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, about a half hour after the parade started, when a group of protesters blocked the San Francisco Pride Parade at Market Street near Sixth Street. The protesters broke down barricades and threw water bottles at police officers as they rushed onto the parade route and linked themselves together with rainbow tubes.

One officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries responding to the protesters' actions, police said.

Protesters were critical of corporate and police involvement in the annual Gay Pride event.

The protest ended about noon, and the parade resumed.
